Dr Mariam Parker

Project Lead

Dr Mariam Parker is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Experiential Learning at the University of the Western Cape’s School of Pharmacy. With a PhD in health literacy innovation and over 18 years of teaching experience across the disciplines of patient-centred practice, pharmaceutical legislation and health ethics, she offers a blend of academic leadership and practical insight. 


Dr Parker has contributed to public health through her early work at Tygerberg Hospital and in managing the medicine supply for Stellenbosch University’s rural outreach programme. Her scholarship background focuses on the areas of digital innovation to enhance culturally relevant health literacy and contextually responsive pharmacy education. She has a strong interest in aligning pharmacy education and regulatory practice with international standards while retaining responsiveness to South Africa’s specific needs.
